How to find the leak without a consultant
- Take one order and follow it end to end, writing down every hand-off and every wait.
- Mark every step where the work sits still. Waiting is the cost nobody invoices.
- Mark every step that exists only because one person once made a mistake.
- Ask the team: "what do you do twice?" The answer is usually the leak.
Then decide, in this order
Delete, simplify, automate — and only then buy software. Most companies do it backwards and pay for a system that preserves the chaos.
A process that only works when one specific person is in the building is not a process. It is a risk with a name.
